THE INSTITUTE

Profile

The ILME (Hellenic Institute of Logistics Management) is a non-profit organization with the goal of enhancing the competitiveness of the Greek logistics sector and promoting logistics management in Commerce, Industry, and Public Administration.

The Board of Directors consists of 11 regular members and 5 alternate members.

The Hellenic Institute of Logistics Management (ILME) was founded in 1994 by the late Konstantinos Sifniotis, Professor at Panteion University, who early on foresaw the sector’s development potential, as well as the need to support and upgrade professionals in the field for the benefit of Greek entrepreneurship and the economy. In this context, ILME has developed a strategic partnership with the European Logistics Association (ELA), the leading logistics organization in Europe, which it officially represents in Greece.

Targets

Training and Certification of the Logistician

The aim of this initiative through training and certification is to provide an additional “tool” for logisticians to ascend to higher levels within the corporate hierarchy.

International Promotion and Pursuit of the European Award for Logistics Excellence

The competition for the “European Award for Logistics Excellence” is held annually, following the model of the Champions League. ILME’s goal is to host this prestigious competition in Greece. A highlight of our efforts was the achievement of first place in 2015 and 2016 at the European Logistics Excellence Awards, organized by the ELA, by two Greek logisticians.

Introduction of International Standards for Logisticians

The aim is for logisticians around the world to speak the “same language.” The European standards are expected to be soon agreed upon between the ELA and Asian countries.

The irony lies in the fact that although these standards were developed under the guidance of the former ILME President, Mr. Yiannis Konetas, and have been adopted by over 20 ELA member countries, they have not yet been officially established in Greece. Therefore, ILME’s primary goal is to finalize this initiative within Greece as well.
